Last weekend went better than I had expected, as I told you in the last Journal entry. This weekend, opening on Thursday, we will handle it much the same. We will open at 11:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM. The exception will be Sunday, where we will open at 11:00 AM, like normal, but will close an hour earlier at 7:00 PM.
After this weekend, we will do a final assessment on closing times and try to be consistent throughout the time we are open for takeout.
It's been a really strange time in southern Maine. Wells and York have opened the beaches for casual enjoyment under certain guidelines. Ogunquit Beach will be open on May 18th with some restrictions. You will be able to surf, walk on the beach and use the beach as you would on a temporary basis. In other words, there will be no sitting or sunbathing on the beach.
The fourteen day quarantine is still in effect and will be for some time. I'm not sure when that will be relaxed. I do know that there are so many out of state cars going through or in town, particularly from Massachusetts, that I can't imagine how you could control this unless you put a road block up on the Maine border. And that is not going to happen. No one is checking to see if you have been in quarantine and the police don't have the manpower to enforce it. Also, there is no law that says that the state will be checking Ids for out of state entrants.
Right now, in Ogunquit, we have no known cases of Covid-19. I think that as long as the social distancing is adhered to, face coverings are worn, hand washing is a part of your life and you know when you are touching items, I think we will be okay. Please don't come into our state if you are sick, have a temperature, can't smell or have noticeable symptoms. And this is nothing that you haven't heard before me.
